Tasking
Setting a task every day gives you something to focus on and a goal to obtain. If you can get others to fly the same task, you have a race. When you race, you can compare and contrast your decisions and evaluate which were good and which were bad.

I spent the day with a student from MN and he got to experience some wave, it was small and we only climbed about 700 ft above release, but it was better than landing so it was a win, and it was mid-January and we are flying... Most of our day was climb 50 ft lose 30.... it was a slow climb. The average climb rate would be better if we could climb the entire time, so let’s avoid losing 30 ft each time.

I would be lying if I said your first cross country will be totally relaxed. Actually, if you are not a little scared you are probably doing something wrong. The below topics are what I have my students do when they come to be.
Of course, you have read all you can on cross-country flying, tactics, and weather.
I would use a mentor and the OLC to get a good idea for your first task.
