Clouds tell the story, obviously! I only look up when I'm flying CU days, which is why it's so important to me to have clear sky ahead & around me. I don't have to look out so much for other gliders, but can look up & out for clues to make me go faster. There's information overload out there if you're wanting to find it.

When it comes to racing gliders, choosing the start time is critical to your overall result for the day, overall for the Championships too for that matter! How does one do it comfortably & reliably though?

It’s four AM. I’m standing out here on this wide-open Hobbs ramp like an idiot in my regional airline pilot uniform because I have to fly a jet back to Houston at 5 AM.
