FLARM - Collision Avoidance and Logger

FLARM is a collision avoidance system developed by glider pilots. FLARM warns if there is a collision hazard from terrain (optional), other FLARM-equipped gliders and other aircraft (ADS-B & transponder). It also gives the location of non-threatening nearby FLARM-equipped gliders. FLARM is programmed with intelligence to understand the unique flight characteristics of gliders so it stays quiet unless there is a real hazard.

FLARM comes as a portable unit which can be moved from aircraft to aircraft. PowerFLARM CORE a built-in installation is also available. If selecting PowerFLARM CORE you will need a display such as FlarmView 57.

On November 27, 2015 the European Aviation Safety Agency, EASA, has formally approved PowerFLARM to be installed in gliders and powered airplanes. The installation of FLARM is considered a minor change to the type certificate of the aircraft. The approval is formally called EASA Minor Change Approval, or MCA for short.
