With a 30:1 glide ratio, if you are flying at 10K ft in the Caribbean, you have 60 mile final glide if the engine quits. From FL to Grenada you will be within final glide of an airport throughout the Caribbean. Being a glider, you don't need a medical to fly the Phoenix in the US. It's a much better option than flying as a Light Sport Pilot, as you can fly at night, and don't have any restrictions on flying above 10K ft or in Class B airspace. The Phoenix has a 110 knot cruise speed, burning 4 gallons / hour. With full fuel you can carry 2 adults and 100 lbs of baggage. The baggage compartment behind the seats is large enough for golf clubs. The best part of the glider are the removable wing tips. The tips can be removed in about 30 seconds, pulling a single pin and disconnecting the wingtip lights. Each of the tips weighs about 15 lbs. With the tips removed, the total wingspan is 35' so the Phoenix will fit in a standard US T-Hangar. The airplane also comes with short wingtips, if you don't want to bother with removing the tips when you put the plane in the hangar. The short tips add 2-3 knots to your cruising speed. With the short tips, the L/D is ~22:1.
