Historic Skopil Nimbus II-S, self-launch sailplane restoration project, one of the early high-performance self-launch sailplanes in North America, listed in the November 1983 Soaring sailplane directory (p-133), and in Wikipedia. It has a 20.3-meter span with an L/D of 49@56mph and a minimum sink of 1.6 fps@47mph. Last documented flight was on July 31, 1987 with a total time of 669.33 hours. Although to my knowledge never damaged, it will take some work to make it airworthy again. It was first flown as Schempp-Hirth S/N: 3 pure open class sailplane with drag chute from 1972 to 1975. Then highly modified by Arnold Skopil with a smooth running retractable self-launching 2 cycle, four-cylinder, 45 hp, Nelson H-63CP engine. Arnold also designed and modified it with a retractable tail wheel and out-rigger wheels that retract into the spoiler boxes in each wing (see pictures). He also incorporated Moffat wing-root fairings (not installed in picture) and a Schempp-Hirth elevator servo-tab (see picture). Arnold then began upgrading the glider with a new more powerful Hirth 2706 engine, but never finished the installation due to health issues. The glider has mostly been stored in-doors ever since. Comes with both the Hirth 2706 and the Nelson H63 engines, and retract systems, although the Hirth engine retract system is only partly constructed. Includes lots of documentation and original paperwork. The glider also comes with the original 1971 Karl Pfeifer trailer but can be stored assembled in a standard T-hangar with the outer wing sections removed. Contact: [email protected]
