Gadringer Shoulder Harness

Gadringer Shoulder Harness

General Description

Gadringer Shoulder Harness - SCHUGU 2000” - series is a shoulder harness that could be used on the lap belt “BAGU 5000” - series to restrain a seat occupant during all flight attitudes and landings

All straps are made from polyester or nylon webbing

The locking–ends of belts are fitted with sewn–in connectors. All belts are fitted with sewn–in end–fittings or loops (“open endings”) to mount the belts directly to the seat or aircraft structure.

The rotary buckle is available in left–hand–fix or right–hand–fix versions. The left or right portion of the lap belt is fixed and connected with the rotary buckle.

Identification labels are located (sewn–on) on each lap belt half, shoulder strap, and crotch strap near the end–fitting on the outer side of each strap.

For metal fittings and rotary buckles, the service time/lifetime is not limited except for those parts being damaged or showing corrosion.

The webbing material is limited to a maximum service time/lifetime (including storage time) of 12 years after the date of manufacturing.

W&W typically stocks 2702 Loop (Open Ending) in silver and black. For other end–-fittings or colors, please allow approximately 4 weeks for delivery. Special Order belts are non-refundable.

Please note the rotary buckle does not come with the shoulder belt, it is included with the lap belt only.

Installation Instructions

The belts are supplied in a condition “ready to be installed“.

For installing the belts pay attention to the marking on the lap belt and shoulder harness:

  • “L” – left side
  • “R” – right side

Relating to the seating position in flight direction the “R”–marked belt has to be installed on the right side, the “L”–marked belt has to be installed on the left side of the seat occupant.

The black tap/plate of the rotary buckle must be in the upper position.

Belts with sewn–in end–fittings must be mounted by fixing the end–fittings (see markings on the picture below) either to the seat or airframe, belts without end–fittings (loops / open endings) must be looped either to the seat, airframe or in an end-fittings mounted to the seat or airframe.

Operation

All parts of the belts come together at a common attachment point (Rotary Buckle).

The rotary buckle is an all metal or plastic sheathed metal device consisting of housing with 5 slotted sockets to accommodate connectors of two lap belt straps (1 + 2), two shoulder harness straps (3 + 4) and one crotch strap (5). Regularly the right hand lap belt strap (1) is fixed to the buckle.

Clockwise or counterclockwise rotation of the rotary buckle cover (B) releases all but one belt at the same time. The shoulder harness can be separately released by pushing forward on the black tab / plate (A) located on top of the rotary buckle. The lap belt (and if used the crotch strap) remains fastened with the buckle.

WARNING: It is important not to interchange the lap belt straps (1 or 2) with the shoulder harness straps (3 + 4).

! USE THE CORRECT POSITIONS WHILE ASSEMBLING !

Because of different dimensions the lap belt connectors (1 + 2) will not connect safely in the shoulder harness socket and conversely. A safe use is not ensured.

Fastening and Loosening the Belts

All belts have to be visual checked before flight for damaged parts and correct functioning.

Fasten and loosening the belts and straps as follows:

  1. In the seated position, grasp the rotary buckle (B) with one hand and position it over the center of the body. Use the other hand to bring over the connector of the lap belt. Insert the connector (2) into the lateral slot opposite to the other connector (1) half.
  2. Adjust the length of the lap belts by pulling on the free end of webbing at the adjuster so that the rotary buckle (B) takes up a central position and that the lap belt passes over the pelvis.
  3. As far as available insert the connector of the crotch strap (5) in the lower slot of the rotary buckle (B). Adjust by pulling on the free end of webbing at the adjuster.
  4. Grasp the shoulder straps from behind, lay left (4) and right (3) strap over the left and right shoulder and insert the connectors into the upper slots of the rotary buckle (B). Adjust by pulling on the free end of webbing at the adjuster.
  5. Tighten belts by pulling on the free end of webbing at the adjusters. Loosen belts by pulling on the pull tabs on the adjusters.

ATTENTION: Do only use those procedures of disassembly that are necessary to remove defective parts and to correct malfunctions.

End Fitting Options

In all P/N variants of 2000 series the kind of used end–fitting is marked by the last two digits of the open bracket.

In addition for lap belt 2000 series the following end-fitting combinations are available:

  • 05: one lap belt half with end–fitting 03, other lap belt half with end–fitting 04
  • 06: one lap belt half with end–fitting 03, other lap belt half with loop (open ending) 02
  • 07: one lap belt half with end–fitting 01, other lap belt half with loop (open ending) 02

Cleaning

To clean the belts remove dirt and unwanted oil and grease. This helps the belts to last longer and prevents corrosion of the metal parts. Prior to a cleaning procedure disconnect the rotary buckle from the lap belt. Disassembly. Hand wash of the dirt parts is recommended to clean the webbing with fresh water and a mild soap (household dishwasher liquid soap, household laundry detergent). Do not keep the complete belts under water. The metal fittings are to be cleaned with a lint–free cloth moistened with isopropyl alcohol.

NOTE! Do not use water and soap for cleaning the metal parts

NOTE! DO NOT TRY CLEANING THE ROTARY BUCKLE INSIDE

NOTE! BELTS SHALL NOT BE MACHINE WASHED, BECAUSE THE WEBBING WILL SHRINK AND ITS PERFORMANCE CHARACTERISTICS WILL CHANGE.

All belts are to be dried either in the open air or in well ventilated locations, keeping away from direct sunlight.
