Detailed Description

Trig TA70 GPS Antenna

About the TA70

The TA70 GPS antenna has been produced in conjunction with partners RAMI to ensure optimum performance with all Trig GPS position source products. The TA70 provides you with a fully certified TSO-C190 antenna, compatible and proven with Trig transponders and supported by our free ADS-B STC program.

The TA70 is a future proof product, it is fully compliant with the latest FAA 2020 ADS-B requirements – this makes it the logical choice in the majority of installations.

TRIG TA70 GPS Antenna

General Description

The TA70 can be paired with either our TN70 or TN72 GPS receivers. Each antenna comes with a simple installation guide and fixing kit. The antenna is light, easy to install and comes with a superior gasket feature – this provides coverage of existing antenna holes, giving a secure and weather tight seal.

The TA70 antenna is included as standard in a TN70 GPS kit. This simplifies compliance as both the GPS and antenna meet the FAA 2020 mandate for ADS-B. For certified aircraft owners in North America, Trig offers a free FAA STC for the TA70 – this makes it straight forward to use in numerous popular airplane types.

The TA70 is a permanently mounted external aircraft antenna, designed for use with handheld and panel mount GPS receivers, which provide +5 volts DC on their antenna connector.

It is an active (amplified) antenna providing an average of 28.5 dB gain over a passive (non-amplified) antenna.

The antenna’s FAA TSO number is TSO-C190.

Mounting location: The TA70 antenna must be mounted in a location that will assure the best possible (360º at the horizon) unobstructed view of the GPS satellite constellation in level flight. (i.e. on the top of the aircraft away from projections such as tail surfaces or large antennas).

You should also try to locate the antenna in an area that will keep the coaxial cable transmission line as short as possible. This will assure maximum signal strength to the GPS receiver.

Using the mounting template provided, drill the four required screw holes and the single antenna connector hole.

Mount the antenna using the hardware provided (as shown in the diagram) and torque all screws to a maximum of 12 in. lb. or 1.4 Nm.

Apply a sealant (RTV is recommended) over the screw heads and around the periphery of the antenna.

About Trig

Trig Avionics Limited was founded in January 2004. Our ambition is to provide the most innovative certified avionics products for aircraft owners and operators. With a global network of over 700 Approved Trig Dealers in 42 countries our popularity continues. A growing community of pilots appreciate our superior products and dedicated customer service. It’s all part of joining the Trig family.

Trig’s CEO Andy Davis started the company back in 2004. An entrepreneur and pilot, he set out to produce a solid state and energy efficient Mode S transponder. A new generation of transponders were required to meet a European wide mandate for Mode S. At the time aircraft owners had few options available, so Andy and his team changed this.
